jeudi 18 juin 2020
"For the final session of the series « Design the Transition, now », the Fondation Braillard Architectes, metrolab.brussels and LASUR Faculté de l’environnement naturel, architectural et construit ENAC – EPFL invite you to attend the presentations of Rob Hopkins and Shalini Randeria in their dialogue with Edwin Zaccai, addressing the issue of imagination in the creation of new urban realms."
The air got clean and fresh, fish reappeared in urban waterways, birds frequented uncut gardens, wild mammals meandered through cities and greenhouse gas emissions are dropping by an unprecedented 8% this year, thanks to the dramatically reduced economic activity. However, this resilience of nature is temporary and the reduction in greenhouse gases is not the result of decarbonising the economy, but the unintended consequence of economic paralysis that has come with painful human consequences and huge costs to lives and livelihoods. Addressing the climate crisis should lead to the intentional, controlled and sustained reduction of greenhouse gases. Above all, it should lead to improved wellbeing, rather than suffering and exclusion. How can the ecological transition become a project to be democratically designed throughout, with cities, buildings and landscapes actively participating in a zero-carbon, equitable society ?
To provide insights to this urgent question, we have invited :
